Introduction

Islam urges its followers to understand and study the universe to know more about the Creator through His creation and then to worship Him sincerely. There are many proofs in the Holy Quran which prove that the Qur’an is the true book. One of these proofs is that the Quran contains many scientific miracles, even though it was revealed to an illiterate Prophet fourteen centuries ago.

If you are looking for a way to memorize the Quran fast and easy. In this post, you will learn some tips and tricks that will help you retain the Quran in your memory and recite it with confidence. Click here to read more about How to memorize the Quran fast and easy.

The scientific miracle of the Quran claims that the Qur’an is miraculous in its revelation of some scientific contents modern experimental science has proven, and has proven impossible to know at the time of our Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

In our other blog, we discuss the Benefits of Reciting the Quran: A Spiritual Journey.

Some verses of the Qur’an reflect Prophetic statements about the nature and structure of the universe, physics, embryonic biological development, geology, mountain formation, and other phenomena that have been confirmed by later scientific research.

Allah Almighty says in the Quran:

Quran mention in Surah Fussilat verse 53 about the Scientific Miracles of The Quran

We will show them Our signs in the universe and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that this ˹Quran˺ is the truth. Is it not enough that your Lord is a Witness over all things? (Surah Fussilat verse 53)

Difference Between Mujiza and Karamat (charismata)

Mujiza is the extraordinary sign that Allah supports His Prophets and Messengers and challenges people.

Karamat is an extraordinary thing that Allah brings to pass through the hands of one of His close friends.

Mujiza means to be done openly; many people see and know it, and it is commanded to be shown openly to the one for whom it is done, while the karamat is on concealment and the one for whom the karamat is. This is done by the wali who is ordered to hide it.

9 Scientific Miracles of the Quran

There are many scientific miracles of the Quran, here we will select the most prominent ones, such as:

Big Bang

The Big Bang event is a physical theory that explains how the universe expanded from an initial state of high density and temperature. The basis of the Big Bang theory, which states that the universe came into existence from a very hot and dense point about 12 to 15 billion years ago, was created by an explosion of the same point.

In 1929, American astronomer Edwin Hubble proposed Hubble’s Law, according to which all objects in space are moving away from Earth at a speed proportional to their distance, such that the greater the distance from Earth, the faster they are moving. Soon after, he discovered that galaxies were also moving away from each other, which meant that the universe as a whole was expanding.

When it is admitted that Allah knows best, it remains surprising that the Qur’an had already revealed that “the heavens and the earth were joined together, and We created them ” separated”.

(Surah Al-Anbiya verse 30)

Do the disbelievers not realize that the heavens and earth were once one mass then We split them apart? And We created from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? (Surah Al-Anbiya verse 30)

Creation of the Universe

The universe began with a massive explosion called the Big Bang, and it has been expanding ever since. Various forces like gravity and magnetism control the motion of stars and planets. There is a kind of leftover glow from the early universe that helps us understand how it all began. There are also things called dark matter and dark energy that we’re still trying to figure out, but that’s how galaxies form and the universe creates. It plays a big role in it. Small changes in the beginning led to everything we see today, and everything around us is just right for life to exist. Studying the changes in the universe helps us learn more about where we came from and why we are here.

Surah Fussilat verse 11

Then He turned towards the heaven when it was still like smoke, saying to it and to the earth, ‘Submit, willingly or unwillingly.’ They both responded, ‘We submit willingly.’ (Surah Fussilat verse 11)

Expanding Universe

Prominent physicist Stephen Hawking has stated in his book ‘A Brief History of Time’ that “the discovery that the universe is expanding was one of the great intellectual revolutions of the 20th century”, although since the revelation of the Qur’an Centuries ago. For us, with the universe, “we are its expenders”.

Quranic Verses about Expanding Universe

We built the universe with (great) might, and We are certainly expanding (it).

Orbits – A Specific Path for Each

One of the qualities of Allah’s creation is that everything operates under a proper system. The sun rises every day at its appointed time. It’s not a minute early or late. When it sets, the moon takes over and stays there until dawn. Every night is followed by day.

Just like the system visible– galaxies have their own system. The celestial bodies are in well-defined orbits and no one replaces the other. This has been happening for millions of years since Allah (SWT) created the universe. An example is the solar system.

Surah Al-Anbiya verse 33

And He is the One Who created the day and the night, the sun and the moon—each traveling in an orbit. (Surah Al-Anbiya verse 33)

7 Layers of the Atmosphere

Some verses in the Holy Quran have been interpreted concerning the layers of the atmosphere. One such verse is in Surah al-Fasilat (41:12),

(Surah al-Fussilat ayat 12)

So He formed the heaven into seven heavens in two Days, assigning to each its mandate. And We adorned the lowest heaven with ˹stars like˺ lamps for beauty and protection. That is the design of the Almighty, All-Knowing.” (Surah al-Fussilat ayat 12)

Read our on the Jannah – The Reward for True Muslims.

In which Allah describes creating the heavens in six days and then turning to the Throne. Some interpret the mention of the heavens as different layers of the atmosphere. This interpretation is consistent with modern scientific understanding, which identifies different layers such as the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, exosphere, and ionosphere. Some scholars argue that the Qur’an’s reference to multiple heavens metaphorically corresponds to these atmospheric layers, thereby finding harmony between religious scriptures and scientific knowledge.

Mountains – Holding Down the Earth

The earth we live on is in a constant state of motion. We do not feel it because Allah (SWT) has placed huge mountains to hold it. This fact was unknown until geologists discovered that mountains have roots deep below the earth’s surface. These roots control the various plates of the earth like pegs or anchors and prevent it from moving.

The miracles of the Quran teach us to appreciate the artistry of Allah (SWT) and to acknowledge the things He has done for us to make our survival possible.

(Surah Al-Anbiya verse 31)

And We have placed firm mountains upon the earth so it does not shake with them, and made in it broad pathways so they may find their way. (Surah Al-Anbiya verse 31)

Iron from the Sky

Some see this verse as an acknowledgment of the importance of iron and its heavenly origin. Iron, often thought to have come to Earth via meteorites, is important for both tools and warfare. This verse has been interpreted as an allusion to the celestial descent of iron, which is consistent with scientific theories that heavy elements such as iron came from space and were brought to Earth by celestial collisions. This passage is often cited as an example of how Quranic verses are interpreted about scientific discoveries.

Surah Hadid verse 25

We sent down iron with its great might. (Surah Hadid verse 25)

Reviving the Dead Heart

In Surat al-Baqarah we find an incident in which a man is killed but the killer is not found. To identify the murderer, Allah (SWT) orders to hit the heart of the person with a piece of cow.

(Surah Baqarah Ayat 72-73)

This is when a man was killed and you disputed who the killer was, but Allah revealed what you concealed. So We instructed, “Strike the dead body with a piece of the cow.” This is how easily Allah brings the dead to life, showing you His signs so that you may understand. (Surah Baqarah Ayat 72-73)

Again, Allah (SWT) advises us to use our intellect to understand His verses and the scientific miracles of the Quran.

End Of The Universe

(Surah Al-Anbiya verse 104)

On that Day We will roll up the heavens like a scroll of writings. Just as We produced the first creation, so shall We reproduce it. That is a promise binding on Us. We truly uphold Our promises! (Surah Al-Anbiya verse 104)

This fits with the Big Crunch theory which talks about how the universe will be pulled back into black holes and re-created on a smaller scale.
