Allah Almighty mentions the importance and benefits of reciting Darood Sharif in the Holy Quran.

Inn Allaha Wa Malaikatahu Yu Salluna Alan Nabi
Indeed, Allah showers His blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels pray for him. O believers! Invoke Allah’s blessings upon him and salute him with worthy greetings of peace. (Quran, 33: 56)

This verse in Surah Ahzab commands Muslims to send blessings (durood) and greetings (salam) upon Prophet Muhammad (saw). Significantly, Allah sets the example by stating that He and His angels already shower the Prophet with blessings. Then, He commanded common Muslims to do the same. This sequence indicates that the status of the Holy Prophet SAW is so high that Allah Almighty Himself, along with His angels, already performs this act, which common Muslims are also asked to do.

Narrated by Hazrat Abu Dharr (RA): The Prophet (saw) said,

“When you send Salat (Durood) upon me, the angels repeat it back to you. So, send Salat upon me abundantly.”

Sahih al-Bukhari (6311)

Darood Sharif and Its Significance

Darood Sharif, also known as Salawat, is a special prayer with immense significance for Muslims worldwide. It involves prayers and praises for the Prophet Muhammad SAW and is recited to convey blessings upon him. As we have read above, reciting Darood Sharif has been encouraged in various Hadiths and Quranic Ayahs, and those who recite it regularly believe it brings numerous benefits.

“He is the One Who showers His blessings upon you—and His angels pray for you—so that He may bring you out of darkness and into light, for He is ever Merciful to the believers.”

(Surah Al-Ahzab 33:43)

Meaning of Darood Sharif: The term “Darood” in Arabic means praise, tribute, and prayer, while “Sharif” signifies honor and respect. Darood Sharif is recited in prayers, sermons, and on special occasions to praise and respect our Prophet Muhammad (saw). It is a way of demonstrating our love and honor towards him, reflecting a deep spiritual connection and devotion.

Below are some Islamic occasions where we collectively send an abundance of Durood and Salawat upon our beloved Prophet SAW:

Hadiths on the Reward of Sending Durood and Salawat

The importance of sending Durood (Salutations) upon Prophet Muhammad (saw) is deeply emphasized in various authentic Hadiths. These blessings are a way of expressing love, and respect, and seeking intercession from the Prophet (saw).

Narrated by Hazrat Anas (RA): The Prophet (SAW) said,

“None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children and all mankind.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari 15)

The Hadith is self-explanatory; any Muslim will not gain full faith until they love the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). Love for the Prophet SAW means following his deeds and remembering the Almighty every second of our breathing life.

Closeness to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in Jannah

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masud (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said,

“The person closest to me on the Day of Judgement is the one who sent the most Salat upon me.”

[Sunan al-Tirmidhī 484]

This Hadith highlights the immense reward associated with sending Durood and Salawat, bringing us closer to our Prophet (saw) on the Day of Judgement.

Narrated by Hazrat Ibn Abbas (RA):

“The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: ‘Whoever forgets to send peace and blessings upon me, then he has missed the road to Paradise.'”

(Sunan Ibn Majah 908)

This Hadith signifies the importance of remembering the Prophet (saw) through Durood-o-Salawat and its connection to attaining Paradise.

What is Darood Ibrahimi?

Imagine a special prayer specifically meant to shower the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) with blessings and peace. That’s what Darood Ibrahimi, also known as Durood Ibrahim, is! Muslims recite this powerful prayer to show their love and respect for the Prophet (PBUH).

Here’s why it’s so important:

  • Found in Daily Prayers: We say Darood Ibrahimi during the sitting part of our daily prayers. It’s like a built-in way to remember and honor the Prophet (PBUH) every time we connect with Allah (SWT).

What is the Durood Taj?

Reciting the Durood Taj holds remarkable importance in Islamic tradition. It is believed to bring numerous blessings to the reciter, including spiritual enlightenment and peace. Short Version of Durood Sharif

It is not always necessary to recite long Duroods, every time we want to send Salawat upon Prophet Muhammad (SAW). We can also recite any kind of short durood sharif and get similar benefits. Moreover, whenever we see or hear the name of our Prophet Muhammad (saw), it is mandatory for all Muslims to send Durood-o-Salaat upon him (saw).

The Prophet (saw) said:

“The most stingy of those who are stingy is the one whom I am mentioned in his presence, and he does not send salat upon me”.

Sunan al-Tirmidh 3546

So, you can fulfill this obligation, even by reciting the following shortest Darood Sharif,

" Sall'allahu Alaihi Wa Aalihi Wa Salam"
” Sall’allahu Alaihi Wa Aalihi
Wa Salam”

These are some short durood sharif to recite at any time. They all mean to send blessings upon Muhammad(SAW). We can recite them, at the times when we are exhausted by our daily work routines and still get the spiritual benefits.

Another form of short durood sharif is as follows:

O Allah! Send blessings and peace upon Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad.

If you are unable to recite other long durood as part of your daily dhikr, then recite this Salawat 100 times, which is the easiest and simplest form of Salawat on the Prophet SAW, as it shows the humility of the Prophet SAW towards His Lord.

Incorporating these short versions of Durood Sharif into our daily lives can enhance our spiritual well-being and ensure that we are always sending blessings upon the beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW, regardless of how busy we are.
